Terms for using Image Load Lab's guides, published data, scripts and browser tools.
Effective date: September 29, 2026. These terms apply to imageloadlab.com, its guides, its downloadable data and its browser tools.
Test results and technical information
Image Load Lab publishes measurements made on a specific machine, with specific software versions, images and settings, all documented on the testing methodology page and in each guide. Results on your images, server, browser or network can differ. The guides are general technical information; they are not a guarantee of performance, search ranking, accessibility or legal compliance, or compatibility with every device and service.
Your responsibility
Keep your original images backed up and test changes on a copy of your site before applying them to production. Check browser support, licensing, privacy, accessibility and your organisation’s requirements before changing how images are published.
Published data and scripts
The CSV files and scripts we publish are provided so that readers can check and repeat our tests. You may download them, run them and use the numbers in your own work. When you cite a result, please link to the guide it comes from so readers can see the conditions it depends on. The data and scripts are provided as they are, without warranty.
Photographs and other images
Test photographs come from Wikimedia Commons under CC0 or public-domain terms and are listed on the image credits page with their authors and sources. Charts, comparison crops and screenshots are produced by Image Load Lab from those files and from our own software.
Browser tools
The image optimizer and the srcset builder process your inputs locally in your browser. Output varies by browser and device. The srcset builder’s size estimates state their assumptions and are not measurements of files that do not exist yet.
External links and trademarks
External documentation remains under its owners’ terms. Product and platform names are used to identify them and belong to their respective owners. Image Load Lab is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google, WordPress, browser vendors or image-format organisations.
Changes and availability
We may correct, update or remove material, and material corrections are listed in the changelog. We cannot promise uninterrupted access to the site or the downloads. Questions about these terms can be sent through the contact page.
